Food Safety

Food Safety is Taken Very Seriously

We take a serious and all-encompassing approach to ensure food safety and have protocols in place to ensure that all associates, vendors, and suppliers perform and operate in accordance with established food safety guidelines and codes.
Food safety protocols include safe food handling, food temperature, food protection, cleaning and sanitation, employee education and training, inspection and enforcement, personal hygiene, hand washing, audits and much more to ensure a safe and pleasant dining atmosphere. We have experienced food safety, quality assurance, and purchasing professionals in place to ensure that our very high standards are met.

Government Food Safety and Sanitation Codes

Our food safety program is in compliance with applicable federal government food safety and sanitation codes and regulations, as well as, all state and local health codes. Operations undergo rigorous third-party external audits to ensure the highest industry quality assurance standards are met that include food and safety inspections of all campus dining facilities. In addition, the Tompkins County Board of Health conducts inspections of our dining locations each semester.

Food Advisory Committee (part of the Student Government Association)

Mission: The Food Advisory Committee (FAC) acts as a liaison between the student body and Ithaca Dining Services. The FAC communicates the interests and concerns of students to Ithaca Dining Management and aims to improve overall satisfaction of food on campus. The FAC supports IC Dining's objective to reduce its environmental impact on campus.

Members: The committee is composed of student leaders as a subcommittee of the SGA. One member of the committee serves as the Chairperson of the Food Advisory Committee along with Sustainability, Events and Social Media Coordinators.

Meeting Times: The committee holds hour-long weekly meetings with Ithaca Dining Services management.

Customer Satisfaction and Quality Assurance Initiatives

Loyalty Surveys - Measuring Satisfaction

A dining satisfaction survey is conducted each Fall and Spring semesters. Students, faculty and staff our encouraged and incented to take the online survey. Results are reviewed by IC dining management and then shared with Ithaca College partners. Survey results and trends guide future strategies/tactics utilized in IC Dining's strategic and marketing plans.

Mystery Shoppers Program

Throughout the fall and spring semesters, student interns shop each resident and retail operation, evaluating each shopping experiences by utilizing an online survey tool that rates their customer experience. This program allows IC Dining to analyze and deploy real-time solutions as well as identify and acknowledge outstanding service practices, daily.

Internal Quality Assurance Audits

Designated Ithaca College staff conduct Quality Assurance Audits in each dining location twice a year. The audits assess compliance with customer service, food quality, sanitation and safety guidelines. These audits are unannounced and done with the Manager on duty.
